The Pensacola Junior College men’s flag football team won the 27th Annual American Collegiate Intramural Sports Flag Football National Championships with a 29-26 victory over defending champions Georgia Southern. PJC got to the finals by defeating teams from Southern Miss and South Baton Rouge. PSA board member Doug Rodgers led the team to victory, and received the award for tournament Most Valuable Player on Offense. The championships were held December 29-31 at the Brosnaham Sports Complex. The University of West Florida hosted the championships after the original host, the University of New Orleans, had to pull out due to damage from Hurricane Katrina. Schools from 30 different states and Canada came to Pensacola to participate in the tournament. Congratulations, PJC!

Still want to register for the 2006 Pensacola Double Bridge Run? There’s still time! You can still register by coming by the PSA office at 101 West Main Street and picking up a registration form, or by stopping by any area Hooters restaurant. You can also register online at www.doublebridgerun.com or www.active.com through January 30. Or, if you tend to procrastinate, just register the day of the race beginning at 5:45 a.m. at Hooters/Bamboo Willie’s on Pensacola Beach. After a hard run, what do you do? Sit down? Drink water? Fall over? Or…. CELEBRATE? We prefer the latter. Don’t forget about the post-race party at Hooters/Bamboo Willie’s! We’ll have food, drinks, music, and dancing so you can celebrate your achievements. Not much of a runner, but still want to be involved? We still need lots more volunteers to help with the run. Volunteers are needed to man water stations, help with split timing, clean-up, and much more! Please contact Joe Joseph at PSA (434-2800) to register as a volunteer. Because volunteers need to have specific assignments, please register no later than JANUARY 30, 2006. We appreciate your time. The Double Bridge Run is Florida’s only 15K crossing 4 miles of water! It’s going to be a great time, so make sure you come on out!
