The annual PSA High School All-Star Baseball and Softball Games were held jointly with the Pensacola Pelicans baseball organization using the University of West Florida baseball and softball fields on Tuesday, May 27th. The event continued the East vs. West format established for the PSA High school Sports Series (football, volleyball, soccer, baseball, softball), with the participation of high school seniors representing schools from Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa county school districts. Event Chairman Jason Libbert and Vice-chairman Glenn Currie headed the event’s organizing committee. Head coaches for baseball were Richard LaBounty (Catholic) for the West team and Andrew Snaith (Choctawhatchee) for the East team. Head softball coach for the West was Melinda Wyatt (Tate) and for the East was Lauris Joyner (Navarre). The East softball and baseball teams won both contests, 6-4 and 16-0, respectively. MVP Awards: East Baseball – Offensive to Josh McDorman, Niceville Defensive to Brett Devall, Niceville ** West Baseball – Offensive to Thomas Langan, Catholic Defensive to Steven Myers, Escambia East Softball – Offensive to Danielle Kildow, Navarre Defensive to Katy Neal, Pace West Softball – Offensive to Chelsea Welch, Escambia Defensive to Amanda Shanahan, Escambia ** Special Congratulations to Brett Devall, East MVP, who just a few days later became the first draft pick of the Atlanta Braves in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft.
