High School All-Star Baseball and Softball Return

The Pensacola Sports Association and the Pensacola Pelicans host the 2008 PSA High School All-Star Baseball and Softball games May 27th at Pelicans Park, located on the University of West Florida campus. Top Seniors from Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties will compete in an East vs. West format; first pitch for both games is at 6:30 p.m.
College coaches and scouts from across the southeast have been invited to attend the games.

Head Coaches for the West teams are Pensacola Catholic High baseball coach Richard LaBounty and Tate High softball coach Melinda Wyatt.

Coaching for the East teams are Choctawhatchee baseball coach Andy Snaith and softball coach Lauris Joyner of Navarre High School.

Rosters and practice dates will be released soon.

Pensacola Open Wheelchair Tennis This Week

Tournament Director David Mayo has assembled the top-ranked players in the world for this spectacular event starting on Wednesday, April 16th and concluding on Sunday, April 20th at the Scott Tennis Center, with overflow play at Bayview Park.

153 players from 25 countries are competing in this the 5th Annual Pensacola Open. The top three players in the world are heading the Mens Open field, and the top five women will compete in the Womens Open, including the winners of the 2005, 2006 and 2007 tournaments here in Pensacola.

Admission is free and spectators are encouraged to come out and witness the incredible athleticism of these top-ranked athletes.

Additions to PSA Hall of Fame

NEW HALL OF FAME MEMBERS ANNOUNCED

Five new members of the PSA Hall of Fame were announced at the PSA Annual Awards Banquet held April 3rd:

Charles Carlan
Rob Hermann
Ralph Crocker
Randy Pounders

All were recognized for their individual achievements and especially for their service to the community.

Banquet highlights included appearances by Amateur Athlete of the Year George Selvie of the University of South Florida and Professional Athlete of the Year Fred Robbins of the Super Bowl Champion NY Giants. Keynote speaker for the evening was former NFL player and coach Kay Stephenson.

The Sportsman of the Year Award was presented to Hiram Cook, founder of the Greater Pensacola Junior Golf Association.
