The Derrick Brooks Wall of Fame Induction banquet was a huge success! Over 450 people showed up to honor Tampa Bay Buccaneers star and Pensacola native Derrick Brooks as the fourth inductee to the City of Champions Wall of Fame exhibit at Pensacola Regional Airport. The “larger than life-size” exhibit was unveiled at a banquet on June 28th at the Pensacola Civic Center, following a video tribute. Celebrity guests included Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin, Florida State University’s Defensive Coordinator Mickey Andrews, Florida State University Athletic Director Dave Hart, former NFL star Terrell Buckley, and Governor Charlie Crist. Proceeds from the event will go to the Pensacola Sports Association and Derrick Brooks Charities. The Wall of Fame exhibit opened in 2003, and features 3 Pensacola athletes: Don Sutton, Emmitt Smith, and Roy Jones Jr. Mr. Brooks will be the first one added to the wall since these initial honorees. The purpose of the Wall of Fame is to celebrate the community’s elite sports legends, to serve as an educational tool to help build character, self-esteem and role models for youngsters and to enhance the image of the Pensacola area for tourism and economic development purposes. The mission of Derrick Brooks Charities, Inc., is to provide educational opportunities for socio-economically challenged youth that will instill, inspire, broaden, and develop cultural and social vision outside of the walls in which they live to ensure that these young people have every chance to develop into the strong and productive leaders of tomorrow.
