Pensacola Classic / AAC

The Pensacola Classic/38th Annual American Amateur Classic (AAC) will be held May 16-18 at Lost Key Golf Club, A.C. Read, and the fully redesigned Pensacola Country Club. Cost is $395 and players receive a practice round (cart fee included), tournament gift bag, party passes for player and guest, 3 tournament rounds, range balls, cart, and beverages.

In order to revitalize the AAC, we have altered the name and format of this event. The Pensacola Classic and AAC is actually two tournaments rolled into one. The AAC will remain an individual stroke play tournament, while the Pensacola Classic will be a 2 Person Best Ball Tournament. We believe these changes will make this tournament appealing to golfers of all skill levels. Our goal is to make this event a great golfing and social experience, like it used to be.

Playing two tournaments can be very challenging, so we have a way for you to wind down after play is over. The Pensacola Country Club, Seville Quarter, and the Fish House will be hosting parties after each round so you can mingle with fellow golfers and enjoy some of Pensacola’s best food and entertainment.

The AAC for many years was one of the main financial support streams for the Pensacola Sports Association. With these funds, PSA supported programs like the Senior Scholar Banquet, the Racquet Round-up, and many other meaningful programs. The renewed success of this golf event will also strengthen the Pensacola Sports Association Foundation’s ability to continue to provide annual grants to many worthwhile community sports programs. The PSA Foundation has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars of support to local sports organizations and programs since its creation in 1980.

Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards

The Pensacola Sports Association (PSA) is presenting the 28th annual Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 3rd, at 6:00 p.m., at the Recreational Outreach Center of Olive Baptist Church. The banquet attracts nearly 700 people, 500 of whom are scholar-athlete nominees and their families, with teachers, coaches and school board officials completing the group. The banquet is free to the students and their parents. Dan Shugart will again emcee the event and students from the Pine Forest High School Culinary Institute and the DECA Club of Washington High School will staff the kitchen and provide table service.

The Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet is the Pensacola Sports Association’s most inspirational and rewarding event. Started in 1979, each year the Pensacola Sports Association honors our local student athletes who have excelled in the classroom as well as in their chosen sport. Nominees are chosen from the following schools: Pine Forest, Washington, Escambia, Woodham, Tate, Catholic, East Hill Christian, Northview, West Florida Tech, Pensacola High, Navarre, Gulf Breeze, Pace, Milton, Central, and Jay.

Each school chooses its outstanding senior boy and girl in each sport. Nominations from each school are carefully reviewed by the selection committee in a “blind” selection process. These anonymous applications are ranked by sport and a winner in each category is chosen, as well as an overall award for one boy and one girl. In 2006, 177 nominees were recognized and 28 scholarships were handed out. This year, 184 athletes will be honored.
