The Double Bridge Run was full of changes this year – New route, new timing company, new t-shirt design, new bus schedule – but the spirit stayed the same as over 4,600 runners, walkers, and military formation runners braved the cold to participate in Pensacola’s largest road race! The new race course was the biggest change in this year’s Double Bridge Run. Runners ran against traffic this year and also got a BONUS BRIDGE – the overpass leading to the Bob Sikes Bridge! The overall male winner, Everett Whiteside, and the overall female winner, Ann McGranahan, apparently had no problems adjusting to the new route, finishing in two of the fastest times in Double Bridge Run history! The run also got high-tech this year! We employed a timing company to time every runner and walker electronically with a race chip, providing more accurate times than in previous years. We got great comments from runners who love chip-timing! PSA would also like to extend a big “Thank You!” to our wonderful sponsors including Lewis Bear Company & Budweiser, Cox Communications, Coca-Cola, Academy Sports and Outdoors, Sacred Heart Hospital, WEAR TV-3, Vince Whibbs Automotive, PODS, Hooters, Q-100, Albertson’s, Bagelhead’s, and CES Team 1 Communications, as well as: members of the Double Bridge Run organizing committee, Pensacola Runner’s Association, Flamingo-A-Friend, Dr. Thomas Riney, Dr. Brent Videau, the Pensacola Power, Gulf Breeze Sertoma, Gulf Breeze Optimist, SeaStars Aquatics, and all of our fantastic volunteers! We learned a lot from this year’s Double Bridge Run (just like every year!) and we hope to make the 2008 race even bigger and better! See you next year!
