Hello Sports Fans! Welcome to a brand new year of sports in Pensacola! We are so excited about 2007, and it looks like it’s going to be a banner year! We hope that you will join in our excitement and become involved with PSA in the New Year. So, you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to get in shape… Get a good start to the year by participating in the 10th Annual Pensacola Double Bridge Run on Saturday, February 3! The Double Bridge Run is shaking things up for its 10th birthday, starting with a new route! 15K runners will begin on South Palafox Street by the Palafox Pier at 7:30 AM and will run against traffic. 5K runners start at 7:35 AM in front of Dolphin Stadium in Gulf Breeze, run around the stadium, and continue against traffic up the overpass going toward Pensacola Beach. As usual, the race will end at Hooters on Pensacola Beach for the post-race party! There are several ways to register for the Double Bridge Run – Registration forms are available at the PSA office (101 West Main Street), at all local Hooters restaurants, and online at www.DoubleBridgeRun.com. Registration is $25 for the 5K run/walk and $30 for the 15K run. THERE WILL BE NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION THIS YEAR!!!!! PLEASE REGISTER EARLY! Packet pick-up will be held at Academy Sports & Outdoors on January 31 and February 1 from Noon to 8 PM, and Friday February 2 at Hooters Pensacola Beach from 1 PM to 8 PM. Racers will receive a 25% discount on food at Hooters Pensacola Beach during Friday’s packet pick-up. Another new feature is that the busses will be shuttling runners to their cars AFTER the race. Racers should park near the start of the race they are running in and will be bussed to the starts after the race until 4 PM. THERE WILL BE NO PRE-RACE BUSSES! We hope to see you at the race! GYMNASIUM DEDICATION Escambia High School’s gymnasium was dedicated to Norm Ross on Thursday, January 11. Mr. Ross was a basketball coach at Escambia for more than 21 years. He is now the Escambia County Deputy Superintendent of Schools and is on the Board of Directors for the Pensacola Sports Association. Congratulations, Norm! INSIDE SPORTS Don’t forget to tune into “Inside Sports”, the television show for the Pensacola Sports Association, hosted by Executive Director Ray Palmer.
