The NCAA Division II Fall Festival of Championships is coming to Pensacola!

The Fall Festival is an Olympic-style event featuring SIX national championships! Over 800 student-athletes will be competing for the top spot in Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Women’s Field Hockey, Volleyball, and Men’s and Women’s Cross Country from November 15th through the 20th.

“The Division II Fall Sports Festival is a wonderful opportunity for student-athletes to compete for an NCAA title, support peers in other sports, and enjoy a national championship atmosphere at the highest level,” said NCAA senior Vice-President for Governance and Membership Bernard Franklin.

This is going to be a fantastic event for the city of Pensacola, and we want YOU to be involved! A volunteer sign-up will be held on October 19 at Seville Quarter from 5-7 PM. Stop by and learn how you can help, and receive two drink tickets!

Hope to see you there!

Gulf South Conference Soccer Championships

For the second year in a row, Pensacola will play host to the Gulf South Conference Men's and Women's soccer championships. The championships will be October 27-29, 2006 at Ashton Brosnaham park. Whether you’re a soccer player, a soccer parent, or just a soccer fan, this is the tournament to see! Come watch as the best teams in the conference battle it out to see who’s really number 1.

According to the Gulf South Conference website, the format is as follows: Ten women's teams and nine men's teams play each other once. The top four teams in the standings qualify for the two-day, single-elimination GSC Championship Tournament held on the weekend immediately preceding the first round of the NCAA Regional. Standings will be kept based on 2-points for a win, 1 point for a tie and zero for a loss.

Teams have to qualify to get in, so make sure you go out and cheer on your University of West Florida Argonauts. The men’s and women’s soccer team’s schedules can be found at

Other teams looking to qualify include: University of Alabama in Huntsville, Lincoln Memorial University, University of Montevallo, University of North Alabama, University of Central Arkansas, Christian Brothers University, Delta State University, Harding University, Ouachita Baptist University, and University of West Georgia.

Don’t forget that the 2006 Fall Golf Outing is coming up soon! October 20 to be exact!

This 4-man scramble will be held at Osceola Municipal Golf Course with a noon shotgun start. Player check-in and lunch begins at 10:30. Entry fees include lunch, golf balls, plenty of food and drinks on the course, post-play awards and more food and drinks!

The Pensacola Sports Association presented ARC Gateway with a check for $5000 on October 9. The money comes from proceeds from the Bud Light Charity Challenge tennis tournament, which took place September 15-17.

The Bud Light Charity Challenge tennis tournament is an annual weekend-long event that benefits a local charity. ARC Gateway was selected as the 2006 charity. The $5000 donation from PSA helped construct KaBoom!, a playground for the people ARC serves.

ARC is a wonderful organization, and we really enjoyed working with them... thanks for all your help, ARC!

We’ve got some pretty good tennis players in Pensacola, and these ladies are proving it!

The 2.5 Adult women’s team from Pensacola represented state of Florida at the 2006 USTA League presented by Chrysler National Championships on October 6-8. According to Dai Durrance, Communications Coordinator at USTA Florida, the best teams from all 17 USTA sections participated. That means our ladies were the best 2.5 team in the whole state!

Great job!
