If you’re a fan of junior golf, the next two weeks are going to be packed with excitement! First up is the Jerry Pate/Andrews Institute Southern Junior, an American Junior Golf Association event. The AJGA is dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. Players such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Grace Park and Paula Creamer developed their golf game at an early age through the AJGA. The Southern Junior will be held at AC Read golf course at NAS Pensacola July 17-20. 84 of the best junior golfers will show off their skills in the AJGA’s first tournament held in Pensacola. The Blue Angels will perform before play on the 18th. For more information, contact Leslie McGill at 434-2800. The week following the Southern Junior will feature the 49th Annual Divot Derby Championship, July 24-26 at various golf courses around the area. The event is free for participants and is open to boys and girls ages 6-18. A banquet will be held July 27 at Olive Baptist Church recreation center with food provided by Carrabba’s to honor the participants. Entry deadline is July 19th, so if you’d like to participate, contact The First Tee of Northwest Florida today! Call 456-7010 or visit www.thefirstteenwflorida.org for more information.

The Pensacola Sports Association has been chosen to host the 2006 National Association of Sports Commissions Market Segment meeting for the Mid to Smaller Market category. Pensacola was chosen to be the location for the meeting out of small and mid size sports commissions across the country. Representatives from other sports commissions will come to Pensacola to discuss key issues faced in the sporting world. The meeting will be held September 12-13. This will be a great opportunity for us to show our competitors what a great place Pensacola is and what stiff competition they are facing! So, congratulations to us!!

By signing up to receive this newsletter each month, you have shown that you are interested in keeping up with the sports happenings in Pensacola. Now I would like to invite you to take on a bigger role… by becoming a member of the Pensacola Sports Association! The Pensacola Sports Association is a private, non-profit organization. We are completely dependent upon money raised through memberships and events. We use the money we raise to put on youth events such as the Racquet Round-Up and Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet, host community events like the Double Bridge Run, and bring outside events into Pensacola for the purpose of developing the local economy. The PSA offers both individual membership and corporate membership. Both come with some great benefits! A PSA membership offers you PSA hats and shirts, a car tag, discounts to select events and banquets, membership appreciation events, volunteer opportunities, and much more. In-kind corporate memberships are also available. If you are interested in learning more about a PSA membership, visit our website at www.PensacolaSports.com or call Leslie McGill at the PSA office, 434-2800. With your help, the PSA can continue to bring sports, and the benefits that come with them, to our community. |
