29th annual Racquet Round-Up

May 24-26 at Roger Scott Tennis Center
May 31-June 2 at Shoreline Park Tennis Center at Gulf Breeze
8:30-10:00 for 6-8 year olds
11-12:30 for 9-13 year olds

It’s time for the 29th annual Racquet Round-Up! This event is hosted every year with the goal of promoting the sport of tennis among the Pensacola area youth. We had a great turnout last year, and we hope to do even better this year!
This FREE tennis clinic is open to boys and girls ages 6-12. Every participant will receive a t-shirt, free Powerade, and can take part in the tennis carnival on May 26. Registration is limited to the first 300 kids at each location, so make sure you sign up soon!

Banquet honors local high school scholar-athletes

The Pensacola Sports Association’s annual Senior Scholar-Athlete Banquet was held May 4 at Olive Baptist Church. The event was held to honor standout scholar athletes from Escambia and Santa Rosa County schools. WEAR TV-3’s own Dan Shugart emceed the banquet.

Each year, two students, one male and one female, are selected as the most outstanding of all the scholar-athletes. This year’s honor went to Jess DeLaune, a soccer player from Tate High School, and Sara Gibson, a basketball player from Pensacola Catholic High School.

American Amateur Classic

The 37th annual American Amateur Classic golf tournament was a big success! The tournament was May 10-13 and featured some great amateur golfers from all over the country. Of course, many came for the great parties and played some golf in between!

Pensacola native Steve Bedford came out on top in the Championship Division, scoring 290 in four rounds. Another Pensacola native, Matt Berzovich, finished a close second at 291. Rick Pirog of Vail, Colorado, finished first in the Men’s Division with a score of 322 in four rounds, just edging out Ken Marciano of Mill Valley, California, who shot 324.
